When people talk about Fast Food and how unhealthy it can be they don't often talk about why its unhealthy they just throw out numbers about the calories and fat your taking in, about fried foods and super sizing meals but you might be shocked to find out that if you really look at what goes into your meal and you avoid the hidden dangers you can walk away without adding inches to your waistline!

Lets consider a Big Mac, 540 calories, 260 of those from fat.. 29 grams of fat. You might be surprised to learn that the bun provides the largest single source of calories, a whopping 210 and that sauces spread all over the bun? 90 calories, 9 grams of fat.. Lesson? Secret sauce is bad and layers of bread pack on the calories!!!

Lets go a little healthier, a Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich, 420 calories, 90 from fat, 10 grams of fat. 5!! of those 10 grams of fat and 50 calories come from the mayo they slather onto your meal.. Lesson? Drop the mayo and you drop half the fat and over 10% of the calories.

Heading to Subway because of all those eat fresh commercials? Stand back a moment and listen to what people order... Who really orders a sandwich without cheese? And have you seen the amount of mayo they tend to slather onto a sub? Lets take the Veggie Deluxe.. They say 230 calories and 2.5 grams of fat but thats with no cheese our sauce, lets face it the average person says yes to cheese and mayo when asked so in reality the average veggie deluxe going out the door is more like 340 calories and 12.5 grams of fat (thats if they only use 1 Tablespoon of light mayo.. have you EVER seen them put down only 1 Tablespoon? I haven't).. Thats more fat then a Chicken Sandwich from McDonalds!!!! And we are talking only 6".... Subway is not the healthiest place to eat for the average American!

So you start ordering wraps to save on bread calories and forgo mayo and secret sauces to save on the fat, can you still have flavor? Sure you can by looking into the other items you can put use to replace the flavor you lost... For example a whole pack of barbecue sauce is only 50 calories and no fat, Or try some Newmans Low Fat Italian on your chicken sandwich, use only half the pack and you get away with 30 calories and only 1.5 grams of fat! Mustard is always a good choice, no fat and only 5 calories per serving!

So next time your in that Fast Food line consider the smaller things you might normally think of and make an informed choice.
